The Case of the Missing Ozine Fest

header

Oh look! Ozine Fest is in two days!

Each kind of person in the Filipino otaku community has done some sort of preparation for each year’s Ozine. A cosplayer may have finalized his or her costume, a performer may have practiced for his or her special number, a typical attender may have saved up for all the merch that he or she wants to buy, and exhibitors may have prepared the stuff to be displayed in the booths.

However, is the event that these people have been preparing for prepared for them? Continue reading

The Struggles of a New Lasallian

My dream school was the University of the Philippines.

Why? Because my dad and my ate came from that university. I didn’t care about how low the tuition fee was, nor which colleges were the centers of excellence. I didn’t care about anything but family and the fact that I wanted to be like my dad, who was a vet. But then, high school changed everything.

My eyes were opened to the different kinds of universities while I was in high school, thanks to the competitions I joined. Slowly but surely, my concept of “dream school” faded. My method of choosing changed to using the heart to using the mind. Continue reading

Firsts of my first: Cosplay Mania 2015 (Day 1)

All photos bearing the Cosplay Mania logo were taken from the Cosplay Mania official website and are linked to their original source pages.

Cosplay Mania is one of the most prominent anime conventions in the Philippines and it is one of the events that are looked forward to by the Filipino Otaku Community. It has been around for seven years, but it was something that never fit my elementary and high school schedule. Fortunately, fate has given me a chance to attend Cosplay Mania for the very first time last October 3rd. Continue reading

Farewell, Blogger

farewell blogger

Blogger personification by jacket (Social Network Class) | Deviantart | Tumblr

Today I am officially closing my original blog—hosted in Blogger since 2008. Since my blog posts are heavy on text and rarely have photos, I thought at first that Blogger satisfied me. I never thought twice about entering Blogger because I thought that WordPress.com was not free. Since I was 11 at that time (yes, I started blogging at a young age so you’ll probably notice changes in my writing style) I confused WordPress.com with WordPress.org. I recently just made up my mind to switch to WordPress.com after realizing that most of the bloggers I know use it because it looks a lot more “formal” (according to them) and “beautifully-made”—and they were right. Let’s talk about why and how I made the move. Continue reading

Review: Kuroshitsuji (Live action movie)

backdrop

Since today is an awesome weekend, let’s talk about a film I watched only recently: Kuroshitsuji. I learned about Kuroshitsuji (the movie) on a magazine, Otaku Asia, and realized that I was actually reading a back issue (laughs). Kuroshitsuji was released in the Philippines last year. Kuroshitsuji was originally about an orphan boy named Ciel who made a deal with the devil and made him his tool (butler, actually) to aid him with his revenge on his parents’ killers and his duty as the Queen’s watchdog. The movie revolves around the same plot, however, some things were made for reasons I’m not really sure about. Continue reading

GOLD Manga Vol. 1 Review

photo header blog copy3

For this post I’m going to review a book entitled ‘Gold’. It’s a one shot collection with four titles from Wattpad (some of which are unfortunately available since yeah, they’re published). And it’s not just a one shot collection, though. It’s a manga one shot collection! Yes, that’s right, Filipino otakus! REJOICE FOR WE HAVE OUR OWN MANGA! And because it’s a Filipino-made manga, everything is in Filipino. Well, not really that Filipino. Many sentences are in Taglish. And for those who hate grammatically wrong sentences, cry now. (This is the reason why I’m totally disappointed in Viva Psicom-published books, many sentences are grammatically wrong though I understand that they might not want to edit them for the sake of retaining the author’s way of conveying stuff.)

So yeah, it’s published by Viva Psicom, the publisher of Diary ng Panget (DnP) which was made into a film. And yeah, one of the pool of authors of Gold is the author of DnP, “Ate Denny” or most commonly known in the Wattpad world as HaveYouSeenThisGirL.

Ozine Fest 2014 (Day 2) in two POVs!

Credit: ozine-events.com

I already lost count of how many times I have cosplayed. Well, never mind. What’s important is that we did (we almost didn’t) attend Ozine Fest 2014 Day 2! I apologize, Jeanne and I never intended to attend all three days. Anyway, this is the worst con experience that we’ve ever had (since I didn’t attend UP AME back then, I wasn’t able to experience the long lines and stuff).

For today we have two POVs in a post (however it is more biased towards the ordinary congoer POV)! I asked my friends who went to the same event but didn’t share the same experiences as me. They are the ones who were able to buy tickets before the event (missed long lines and the heat outside). Let’s get started!

By the way, I don’t own all of the pictures here. Some photos were taken from Jaimee and Jeanne. The ticket information and other posters related to Ozine Fest 2014 were taken from ozine-events.com.
